A black hole is a region of space from which nothing, not even light, can escape. It is the result of the deformation of spacetime caused by a very compact mass.
Importance in Futurama
The Futurama characters have encountered black holes several times, including being on the Titanic and just barely escaping when it was sucked into one, [1ACV10] and creating a black hole when imploding stars to get rid of time skips. [3ACV14] Cubert and Dwight once created a small black hole at Wozniak Nerd Academy [3ACV12] and Leo Wong tried creating one as the end of his miniature golf course. [ItWGY]
